Elopement is first and foremost an intimate adventure, a celebration that reflects who you are, often set amidst majestic nature or in a place steeped in meaning. As an elopement photographer, I've had the privilege of accompanying many brides in incredible settings: atop a mountain, by the ocean, in a wild forest, or in the streets of a city they cherish.
And if there's one question that always comes up, it's: "How do I choose the perfect elopement dress?" Your dress shouldn't just be beautiful—it should be in harmony with your adventure, with the surroundings, and above all, with you.
Unlike a traditional wedding, an elopement can involve walking, climbing, and being exposed to wind or even rain. Your wedding dress must therefore allow you to move freely.
• Opt for light and flowing fabrics: chiffon, tulle, silk, crepe. They offer freedom of movement and create stunning effects in photos.
• Avoid overly rigid corsets: you want to breathe, laugh, and run if the mood strikes.
• Choose a cut that suits the terrain: a train that's too long can quickly become a burden on a hiking trail, but a light train can also add a touch of magic.
As a europe elopement photographer, I always notice how much more naturally radiant a bride who feels comfortable in her dress appears in front of the camera.
One of the great joys of elopement is choosing a unique setting. Your elopement dress can enhance this magical location:
• In the mountains: a flowing elopement dress with sleeves that dances with the wind, the long sleeves is used for warmth and style.
• In the forest: a bohemian wedding dress with lace and nature-inspired details.
• By the sea: a light, simple, and airy beach elopement dress that moves with the waves.
• In the city: a modern, elegant, and minimalist cut, sometimes even a short dress for a touch of daring.
In my photos, I love playing with fabric textures in relation to the landscape: chiffon billowing at the top of a cliff or lace catching the light filtering through the trees.
Accessories play a key role in an elopement. They add a unique touch while also being practical.
• Shoes: Forget 12cm heels. Choose elegant ankle boots, comfortable sandals, or even stylish sneakers. Your feet will thank you.
• Cape, jacket, or sweater: Perfect for keeping warm if the weather changes, and absolutely gorgeous in photos.
• Veil or hat: A long veil can create a dramatic effect in the wind. A hat adds a bohemian and edgy touch.
When you're eloping, there is no rules. So why should you wear a simple elopement dress?
• If you dream of a colorful dress (champagne, nude, blush, or even black), go for it.
• If you prefer a minimalist and elegant style, that's just as stunning.
• If you love unique details—floral embroidery, flowing sleeves, subtle sequins—this is the perfect opportunity to shine in your own way.
As a destination elopement photographer, what I love most is capturing a bride who feels truly herself in her dress. That's where the most beautiful images are born.
Many elopements take place abroad or require a short trip. In this case:
• Choose a dress that folds easily without wrinkling too much.
• Ask the boutique if the dress can be transported in a garment bag.
• Pack a small anti-wrinkle kit (steam or spray).
I often recommend that my brides travel with their dress in their carry-on luggage rather than in checked baggage to avoid any stress.
Choosing your elopement dress for an elopement is so much more than just style. It's about finding the perfect balance between comfort, beauty, and authenticity. Your dress should tell your story, adapt to your adventure, and above all, allow you to be completely yourself.
As an elopement photographer, my role is to capture the essence of this unique moment, and I can assure you that the perfect dress is always the one in which you feel free and radiant.
